The innovation team at Enhance Innovations, working in collaboration with scientists from the National Physical Laboratory of India, embarked on designing a solution that could address the critical needs exposed during the pandemic. Their objective was to create a device capable of maintaining strict temperature control for essential medical supplies during transport, especially in rural regions where infrastructure is underdeveloped and unreliable. Their efforts resulted in the conceptualization and eventual development of Phloton, a device specifically tailored to bridge the gap in the healthcare supply chain.

Phloton: Features and Technology

Phloton stands out due to its cutting-edge design and innovative technology, tailored to meet the complex requirements of cold chain logistics in healthcare. This portable, battery-powered cooling device features a compact, 2-liter chamber capable of maintaining a temperature range of 4-6 degrees Celsius for about 10 hours. Additionally, private hospitals and diagnostic chains that require reliable transportation of high-value medications also present significant market opportunities for Phloton.

Phloton’s potential extends into areas like biomedical research, organ transport, agriculture, animal husbandry, and even the food and beverage industry. Early collaborations with organizations like Akshayakalpa and URMUL in Rajasthan have shown promising results in preventing vaccine spoilage and managing artificial insemination samples.
